Vagabondage I started life in 2004 as a limited edition of three units, with brass movements (1 white gold, 1 yellow gold, 1 rose gold), in order to benefit ICM; Institute for Brain and Spinal Cord in Paris, France. The three charity timepieces, sold in partnership with Antiquorum Auctions, captured the collector market by bringing 3 times the estimated price. Less than two years later, a further series of 69 examples, of the "wandering hour" complication debuted in platinum, but with a finely finished solid gold movement, in which F.P Journe timepieces are renowned for. The "Flat Tortue" case shape was also a first for FP Journe timepieces, which has become an immediate recognizable aesthetic of the Vagabondage series.
