In the grand tradition of complicated timepieces, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyrotourbillon II is modern masterpiece. The ultra-sophisticated Caliber 174 surpasses the traditional single axis tourbillon with it's three-dimensional rotation from the dual axis tourbillon escapement with cylindrical (helical) balance spring and curved ends. The ultra-light outer carriage completes a full turn on its axis in sixty seconds. The inner carriage, which holds the variable inertia balance wheel, cylindrical spring and the escapement, makes a quicker rotation of exactly 18.75 seconds. This rotation speed allows the balance wheel to be visible at all times and insures exceptional rate accuracy independent of the watch position.
