    WALTER G. VARTAN; Brigadier General, U.S. Air Force, Retired

    General Vartan was commissioned as a 2LT through ROTC. After earning his wings he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command's 307th Bombardment Wing, Lincoln Air Base, Nebraska, flying the B-47 nuclear bomber. The missions he flew in the B-47 were training for deterrence in the Cold War.

    Following his active duty he returned to civilian life in Chicago where he joined the Air Force Reserve and was assigned to the 928th Tactical Airlift Group at Chicago-O'Hare Airport. .He flew various missions including world wide airlift support for aero medical missions, para-troop training and various cargo missions including ferrying an aircraft to Vietnam.

    As a senior officer he held positions at headquarters, the Pentagon U.S. Air Force, retiring from the Air Force as a Brigadier General.

    Condition: This timepiece is good condition. There is noticeable wear on the case, and bracelet (see photos)...which is to be expected given the military life this timepiece lived. Dial has aged nicely with dark brown "tropical" subdials. Small scratches on crystal. Movement runs and operates as it should. Service is recommended for daily use, and timekeeping accuracy
