In the pantheon of collectible wristwatches, few watches embody their heritage like the present lot. This Omega "Moonwatch" Speedmaster, reference 145.022-69 BA belonged to Commander Scott Carpenter, and was one of twenty-six gifted to astronauts by Omega in 1969. Ten years prior, in 1959, Carpenter was one of seven men selected to partake in the Mercury Project, the U.S.'s first attempt to put man in space. He was the sixth man to be successfully launched into space, and the second American to successfully orbit the earth aboard the Aurora-7. Presented to Carpenter in recognition of that feat, this lot is preserved in original, unpolished condition, comes from the original family, and would be an undisputed cornerstone in any collection.
