Rolex Ref. 6098, also known as the "big bubbleback" and "pre-explorer", has been appreciated by vintage Rolex collectors for its size and appearance. Having been born in the 1950's, which was such an experimental time for Rolex, the reference offered an array interesting dial variation. None more exclusive and desirable as the honeycomb "Stelline" dial.

Formally, it was believed a total of only eight reference 6098 were known publicly with a gold case and silvered "Stelline" type dial. This previously unknown and fresh to market example would be number nine, with all serial numbers for the examples made in 18k gold falling between the range of 912*** and 947***. This particular timepiece having serial 928128.

Another interesting production difference between "Stelline" 6098's from standard dial variations is the gilt finished movement, as well as the horizontal and vertical double signature on the inside case back.

These details and rarity make this a very special Rolex.

Condition: This timepiece is presented in very good condition. The case still retains its sharp lines. While signs of wear can been seen on case sides and lugs, it appears the case was spared the over use of a polishing wheel. The original dial shows obvious signs of ageing, and also shows evidence of lume being refreshed over time in the appropriate places on applied markers despite still registering radium on the Geiger counter. Movement runs and sets as it should. Heritage does not guarantee timekeeping accuracy. We always recommend servicing for daily use and timekeeping accuracy
