Dial: black "reverse panda" dial with white sub-registers, red outer minute track, baton hands
Movement: Valjoux cal. 722, manual winding, 17 jewels
Band: stainless steel, Rolex stamped Oyster bracelet, date code "4 68", 7835 model bracelet, 271 end links

From the estate of Robert Richard Porter, Jr.
"It will be a good day or a good story," was the homespun philosophy of Mr. Robert Richard Porter Jr., who as part of America's Greatest Generation, heeded the call by enlisting in the U.S. Navy on his seventeenth birthday. Serving in the Pacific Theater as a tail gunner, he fought in both WWII and the Korean War. When the war ended, he returned home to Texas where he was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Company (later ExxonMobil) and by the late 1960's was asked to be part of the startup crew of a new refinery being built in Singapore. Mr. Porter's wife and daughters joined him on this new adventure. Mr. Porter's daughters recall that it was in a jewelry shop off Orchard Road in Singapore that "Dad got the Rolex he always wanted!" At the time, it was expected that customers would bargain with shopkeepers before making their purchase. However, Mr. Porter's daughters recollect, "Dad said he knew he had overpaid for the Rolex since it was obvious to the shopkeeper that he really wanted that watch." It is our privilege to offer Mr. Porter's Rolex Cosmograph reference 6241 with "Paul Newman" dial and we know that whoever takes home this prize will have "a good day" and "a good story."

Circa: 1969
Condition: watch is in very good overall condition. Dial presents in very attractive condition. Lume plots on hour indices and hands have aged at the same rate. Very subtle spotting on the sub-dials, with a small streak on the 6 o' clock sub-dial. Very small amount of paint loss near the 10 o' clock marker. Tachymeter "UPH" bezel is in good condition, with a small dent outside of the 75 marker. Case shows signs of prior polish. Crown still screws into tube threads with ease. Folded link bracelet has some stretch. Center links have been polished. Chronograph function starts, stops, and resets without issue. Movement runs and sets as it should. Heritage does not guarantee timekeeping accuracy. We always recommend servicing for daily use and timekeeping accuracy.
