The importance of the Tudor Ref 7922 Submariner, first presented in 1954, cannot be overstated. It represents Tudors entrance into the dive watch market and its influences can be seen the brands aesthetic DNA in its current offerings.
This early first series 7922, which had both the reference and serial number on the exterior of the case back, not between the lugs, which was a later development seen on this reference. The movement is the self-winding Tudor brass finished calibre 390, developed on a Fleurier ebauche. The original 1st series black lacquered and domed Gilt chapter ring dial reads 'Tudor Oyster Prince' above a printed depth rating of '100m=300ft', along with 'Submariner', 'Rotor' and curved 'Self Winding'. The early rare dials are highlighted by the small detail of the luminous 12 marker touching the Tudor Rose logo.
This example comes from the family of its original purchaser, a noted European collector, and is a remarkable example of this ultra-rare and desirable Tudor. The case still exhibits its original sharp lines and chamfers; the dial retains all the lume plots. As do the hands, with the original domed acrylic crystal still present. Most impressively, the watch retains its original bezel, without hash minute markers between 0 and 15, which normally replaced by Rolex service. This represents a rare opportunity to acquire an important and original Tudor Submariner Ref. 7922, the first Tudor Submariner Reference
